Church Activity Doubled
With the startup of a Spanish Outreach Mission in my church the activity level has doubled around the church overnight! The group is only 20-25 in size currently but they have elected their first officers, started their own building fund, and have volunteered to take on some of the churches utilities to get used to the admin and money management side of things.

Re: Church Activity Doubled
So are the services held in your church building? If so, what times do they hold the services in relation to what times your church services are held?

Re: Church Activity Doubled
Yes they will be holding services in the church building roughly 2 hours after our services on Sunday and then on Friday at 7:00PM to start out. The first month or so I will be watching them and will be in my office while their services are going on just to make sure things are going right.

Re: Church Activity Doubled
Pastor Rick,
Is it your own church that has actually started the mission church or is it a daughter church of some other group? If it is not from your own church, do you know if the mission church has the same sort of theological underpinnings as your own church does? For example, if the mission church decides to baptize babies, would that make a difference in whether or not you would continue to have to group meet in your building?

Re: Church Activity Doubled
From every interview I have conducted with the pastor for the Spanish mission his theological views are KJV Baptist oriented but if he did start teaching and/or preaching non-biblical doctrines like infant baptism as a way of salvation then they would have to repent of that doctrine or leave. We are the sponsoring/home church for the group so that puts them totally under my authority and mentor-ship in this regard.

That does make things a bit easier than a rental situation to a completely outside group, though such a rental situation would be workable if the prior interviews were done with due diligence.
There is a fundamental Baptist church starting in my town, and they are renting a church building from an Assembly of God church. The Assembly of God church built a larger building next door to their old building, so they don't use the old building for their own services any more. Fortunately they do not place any theological requirements upon their rental arrangement, or I don't think a Baptist church would agree to rent there.

Re: Church Activity Doubled
I know others have done this and have allowed different doctrinal belief groups into their church but that just seems like a way to have potential confusion in the community on what the church believes. I don't feel God really approves of that because the Bible does say that God is not the author of confusion. Thankfully, this new group we are sponsoring does not look like it will cause that kind of problem.
