Consolation...
I am doing a word study on "consolation" and how it is used in both the Old and New Testaments... It's really fascinating...

Re: Consolation...
Hi Pastor,
I don't know how your study went, I'm sure very well, but I can tell you what went through my mind without looking in the scripture.
I go to the Lord with all of my complaints, requests, just as though I'm talking to someone who gives a hoot.
He consoles me and comforts my faith and reassures me through His promises.
He's my best and only friend.
This thread is a bit old but the need for consoling and comfort always seems a new.
Thank you for this post.

The unknown reader is always present so just a few consoling comforting words...
Old Testament:
(Deuteronomy 31:8)
And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.
(Joshua 1:9)
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
(Psalm 23:4)
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
====
New Testament:
(Matthew 5:4)
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
(Mark 5:36)
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
(Luke 12:7)
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (NIV)
(John 14:1)
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
(John 14:27)
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Re:
Word study are often more difficult for me to prepare but I often get more out of them because of the extra time. That sounds like a very good word to do a study on.
