Judges 6:20-24

Judges 6:20-24
KJV(i) 20 And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so. 21 Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight. 22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face. 23 And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.24 Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovahshalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Judges 6:20-24 Easy English Bible
20 The Lord's angel said, ‘Put the meat and the bread on this rock. Pour the soup over them’. And Gideon did so. 21 The angel touched the meat and bread with the end of his stick. Fire came from the rock and burnt up the bread and meat. Then Gideon could not see the angel. 22 Gideon knew then that he had been an angel from the Lord. He cried out, ‘Great Lord, I have seen your angel, face to face’.
23 But the Lord said to him, ‘Do not be afraid. You are not going to die’.
24 So Gideon built an altar there. He called it ‘The Lord is Peace’. The altar is still there, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

20 This was an offering this rock now had become an altar. Are we willing to offer anything to the Lord because, He gave His life for us, we should do the same for Him.

21 This fire symbolized God, it showed that God received the offering, the angel was always just a massager of God never was anything more. The angel didn’t touch the offering because it was for the Lord, not for the angel.
22 While some instances God comes in the figure of an angel, He did this to both Joshua and Jacob; this is not one of those times. Gideon knew this was an angel.

23 Often times angels and God’s word brought fear but often God brought comfort, if what God says doesn’t cause us fear this is a problem but if He isn’t giving us comfort from our fear that is also a problem.

24 Gideon made a more proper altar, the rock he already used as an altar. When we need know the truth, it should motivate us to do more.
