Judges 6:28-32

Judges 6:28-32
KJV 28 and when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built. 29 And they said one to another, who hath done this thing? And when they inquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Josh hath done this thing. 30 Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it. 31 And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar. 32 Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.

Judges 6:28-32 Easy English Bible
28 The next day, the men of the town saw that Baal's altar and Asherah’s tree were broken. They saw the new altar. They saw that someone had burned the second bull on it.
29 They asked each other, ‘Who has done this?’ Then they found that Gideon, son of Joash, had done it.
30 The men of the town told Joash to bring Gideon out to them. They said that Gideon must die because he had destroyed Baal's altar. He had destroyed the place where they offered gifts to Asherah.
31 Joash replied to the angry men. He said, ‘Are you trying to save Baal? You do not need to save him. If you fight for him, you will die today. If Baal really is a god, he can fight for himself. He will punish anyone who breaks down his altar’. 32 Then they called Gideon ‘Jerub-Baal’ (Baal must fight for himself). This was because Gideon had broken down Baal's altar.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

28 The people found out what had happened, their idols were gone and replaced. Gideon did what he was supposing to because the Lord asked and other people noticed the change. People should notice the change the Lord makes in us.

29 Joash would have helped his father as the Lord commanded Gideon. The people were angry, Gideon changed but he couldn’t change the people, they had to be willing to submit to the Lord.

30 This wasn’t even there altar, Gideon had a right to destroy it more then they had a right to worship there but sin twists truth. They wanted to kill Gideon. This is often the reaction of those in sin against us doing right, Jesus was without sin and came to die for sin and the world that didn’t want to change wanted to make sure he saw that death. It is only thru Jesus people really change.

31 He is telling them that if Baal has power then watch him deal with it but if not then why follow a god who doesn’t have power. Praise God that He has all power.

32 This verse explains why God had Gideon break down the altar.
