Josh 10:1-5

Joshua 10:1-5
KJV 1 Now it came to pass, when Adonizedec king of Jerusalem had heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them; 2 That they feared greatly, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all the men thereof were mighty. 3 Wherefore Adonizedec king of Jerusalem, sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying, 4 Come up unto me, and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for it hath made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel. 5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their hosts, and encamped before Gibeon, and made war against it.

The Holy Bible – Knox Translation
Joshua 10:1-5

1 The king of Jerusalem, Adonisedec, was told of what had befallen; how Josue had taken Hai and overthrown it, making an end of city and king, there as at Jericho; how the Gabaonites had gone over to Israel and become their allies.

2 And he was overcome with fear; this Gabaon was a great city, a royal capital, of more importance than Hai, and with brave warriors to defend it.

3 So, from his palace at Jerusalem, Adonisedec sent envoys to Oham king of Hebron, Pharam king of Jerimoth, Japhia king of Lachis, and Dabir king of Eglon;

4 Come and help me crush the Gabaonites, he said; they have made an alliance with Josue and the people of Israel.

5 So it was that these five Amorrhite kings, from Jerusalem, Hebron, Jerimoth, Lachis and Eglon, joined their forces and encamped before Gabaon, offering battle.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 So they take Jerusalem, this would become their capital and would be where the temple would be later built. Jerusalem today is a very important city and this might have never been if they didn’t trust God to lead them to take the city.

2 So they make these allies, with a strong group, this was the group that deceived them because they didn’t want to them to conqueror them so they tricked Israel and now they are helping them take the land so that they don’t break their part of the covenant because if they did then Israel could take their city and fight them. This great city he eared had a fear for the Israelites because of the God they served, this man truly knew his kingdom was about to fall.

3 So the kings sends for more help, numbers often mean help but also sometimes too many get in each others way. When we stand against t6he Lord’s will, we can’t ever have enough help. We need to submit to Him and seek His help.

4 They could have helped Israel because their covenant was that they would harm them but if someone else did then Israel wouldn’t have broken their covenant. Israel never needed this group’s aid because they only needed each other and the Lord, we as the church only need each other and the Lord to do the work He has given us, and we don’t need outside worldly help to do His mission.

5 So now these liars and tricksters were about to have a fight that they most likely would loose. They were so focused on what Israel and God would do to them they made enemies of everyone else. We as Christians can be seen as enemies of the world but if we have Jesus that should be enough.
