1 Sam 9:7-9

1 Samuel 9:7-9
KJV 7 Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we? 8 And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way. 9 (Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.)

Revised English Version 1 Samuel 9:7-9
7Then Saul said to his servant, “But look, if we go, what do we bring the man? For the bread in our sacks is gone and there is no present to bring to the man of God. What do we have?”
8The servant answered Saul again and said, “Behold, I have in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God to tell us our way.”
9(In earlier times in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, he would say, “Come and let us go to the seer,” for he who is now called a prophet was formerly called a Seer.)

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

7 It was common to bring a gift for exchange for his help, it wasn’t payment but a show of generosity.

8 So they had money to give him, Samuel didn’t work for money but this was a custom that they practiced to gift a gift. Are we willing to give what we have to know God’s way for us? God don’t require this from us but we should be willing to give it back to Him, if following Him required it.

9 The times changed because prior to Samuel there wasn’t many prophets there were Moses and that was about it till Samuel.
