The "Visions" creation theory
In the late 1950's this theory that Genesis 1 was a series of visions describing major creation events but not necessarily in order became popular. The main idea behind this theory is that God reveals the ancient past in the same way he reveals the future so just as we can be confused by the order of events in the future we can also be confused by the order of events in the past. The days mentioned thus represent the order of the visions given to Moses and may or may not reflect the reality of when God actually did something.

Re: The "Visions" creation theory
I had never heard of this one before. I think that usually in the bible, when a vision is being given, the Bible is fairly clear that it is a vision. That doesn't happen with Genesis. I wonder if proponents of this theory would think that the account of the flood is also a vision.

Re: The "Visions" creation theory
The proponents of this theory tend to put anything of the distant past into a set of visions (not as much as the Framework Theorist do but that is another subject). That being said, I do not recall any of them doing so with the flood. The context and concepts that the Visionist (sp) hold to allow for Genesis 1 and 2 to be visions revealed just as the visions of Daniel were revealed though in the case of Genesis 1 it is a matter of God speaking with the Son and Holy Spirit as opposed to God speaking with a prophet.
