Biblical Sunday School Teaching Methods
Is Sunday School biblical? How do we teach the Bible today in a way where the student sees how it is relevant in todays society?

Re: Biblical Sunday School Teaching Methods
Since teaching God's Word is Biblical, then I think Sunday School is Biblical. A church wouldn't have to have Sunday School. It's certainly not commanded, but it is certainly a valid method for a church to use.
I suppose you could say that the chapters relating the responsibilities of the Levites in the Israelite temple may not be relevent in today's society, but even passages that relate to the temple can be used to draw the student's attention to Christ and to the fact that we as Christians are the temple of God. Any time we focus on the Bible's message as God's revelation of Christ to mankind, then we are making the Bible relevant to today's society.

Re: Biblical Sunday School Teaching Methods
I agree. Yet one has to wonder a bit on the way the church in the USA focuses on the Sunday School curriculum. These are now planned up to 5 years in advance so the lesson plan may call for the story of Joshua and the battle of Ai when current events may be about a flood or other natural disaster that has impacted the children's lives. If we insist on following the curriculum then the children could easily get the idea that the Bible is not relevant in their lives. How do we cover both in a 30 minute class? Should the parents have a role to play in this?

Re: Biblical Sunday School Teaching Methods
I think it would be more important for a Sunday School to systematically teach through the whole Bible at the child's level than to change that course simply because some event has happened in the community or the world. There is so much Biblical illiteracy in the world today. Kids just aren't being taught the stories of Joshua and AI as they were years ago. If a natural disaster were to happen, the the message of reliance on God could be brought to bear from practically any Bible lesson that a SS teacher might be scheduled for.
